Diabetic Foot Care

If you have diabetes, it is important for you to care for your feet properly every day. People with diabetes are more likely to have foot problems because diabetes can affect circulation negatively and sometimes causing the inability to feel to recognize ailments until it is too late.  If you have nerve damage, known as neuropathy, you may not feel pain if you injure your feet.  Because of this an infection may develop without warning.  Decreased blood circulation slows healing. Even a small scrape on the bottom of the foot has the potential to turn into a serious ulcer and sometimes can even lead to amputation of a foot or leg. For this reason, increased attention to the state of your feet is one of the key changes all diabetics need to make, in order to remain healthy.

 Prevent problems before they occur

It is crucial for people living with diabetes to see a podiatrist routinely in order to prevent problems before they occur, and receive the proper treatment when a problem does arise. Having a dedicated podiatrist to help you take care of your feet can ease the fear and stress that comes along with having diabetes. At Sound Foot & Ankle, our well-experienced and caring podiatrist Dr. Joyce is focused on preventing and educating our diabetic patients about foot, ankle, and knee care issues before problems arise.
